"I just don't understand running. You go somewhere, you go there very fast, but it's nowhere in particular and instead of stopping and doing something you just come back. What's the point?"
Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to what will likely be my first failed goal: running. Running is a cheap way to keep fit at least but I am ridiculously goal orientated and so 'run a bit' isn't really good enough. I need a certificate or something I can tick a box for or something that I feel is important. So, I have 2 goals. One is very long term (next year at the earliest) and one is in 2 moths or so. The first goal is to do the Great North Run, which would mean running 15k and would mean committing myself to steady training for at least 6 months prior to the run (apparently it is dangerous to run it without 6 months experience and to be perfectly honest I don't think I could even walk it if I did it this year). The second goal is the local race for life, a 5k run which you are allowed to walk (so if I get too knackered I can still finish). I plan on jogging it. I have 2 months to get from someone whose entire running experience has consisted of 2 jogs (in the last two weeks) to someone who can jog 5k. Wish me luck.
